Addis Ababa, January 19, 2021 - Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) the infamous group that reigned over Ethiopia in tyranny for three decades is no more a recognized political party, according to the statement released from the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).
According to the Electoral Board, the TPLF was removed from the list of recognized political parties after it investigated and found evidence supporting TPLF's active involvement in violent rebellion.
In addition, the board said it attempted to reach out to TPLF's head representative in Addis Ababa but its attempt was unsuccessful because the representative refused to be associated with TPLF.
As a consequence, the board revoked the party's legal entity based on Political Party's Proclamation 1162/2011 clause number 98/1/4. Hence, quoting clause 99 of the proclamation, the board has ruled that TPLF's leadership can no longer associate themselves with the party.
The board also requested the Attorney General to provide it a list of inventory of TPLF's properties. Once it obtains that the board will use it to repay TPLF's debts if there are any. After paying up its debts, the board said the law allows it to use the remaining budget for civic and voter education activities.
In addition, the Electoral board also requested clarification from three other political parties in Tigray region, who were involved in the election along with TPLF without the consent of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia.
